Prairie House Restaurant in Cross Roads

Service is 50/50 - never know if it will be very good or very bad, seldom just good. Some items on the menu are really good but you have to visit enough to find selections that are good. I've talked to management more than once about their service. The overall price always seems to get more expensive than anticipated- always. For two people it seems to always be between $40 and $50. We typically choose the BBQ Chicken for the main meat item because it has been consistently good.Today was a great experience.

We had the special for the day. Barbecue chicken and beef, no substitutions. I dont eat beef so my husband gave me his chicken and he got my beef. So we worked it out. The plate came with coleslaw and potato salad, both were served warm. It was about 2:00 and there were two other tables that had been served. Our meal took longer than we expected to arrive.

We decided to try this place and we do not regret our choice. The lunch Saturday lunch special was delicious!!! We will certainly be back!

Great food. One of the best places to get barbecue.

Ribs are pretty good if you catch them when they are not busy and salads are pretty good. My last salad had spoiled bacon so it completely ruined the taste of the salad, but not any problems previously. Enjoyed the mashed potatoes. Will be returning.

Ordered delivery while having an Airbnb lake trip. Ordered fried catfish, delicious breading and fried just right. Got the burnt ends and didn't want to share. The brisket queso made the every time order list. Will definitely be visiting here again.

Tried this place several times, really depends on what I order if I like it. What I've concluded is that the breakfast is great and appetizers are very good, yet I am consistently disappointed with the dinner options. Had the catfish, which has a cornmeal crust, I do not like this at all, but I didn't ask before ordering. Hubby ordered fried shrimp, we both thought is tasted like it was cooked in reused (burned) oil. Ambiance is "graphic", taxidermy animal heads on wall, lots of historic paraphernalia, fun to look around while waiting. We'll probably return for breakfast, service is cordial and pleasant but slow.

Always have the best food here, catfish, grilled chicken and ribs falling off the bone! Finger licking good. We’ve been dining here for 15 years! One of our favorite places. Fried cheesecake is the bomb!

Great staff and the manager who I believe is garrett, he is awesome! Food is good and prompt as well as the wait. We were told 15 minutes to be seated it was closer to 5. Also the view outside in the evening is great, strongly recommend outside seating.

The structure, the setting and the service make it a 5 star. I was back and forth with either 4 or 5 stars. There was one thing that made me go for a 4 star. I ordered the prime strip medium, it arrived nice and sizzling, but it was well done. It is supposed to be a steak restaurant and that is why I rated it a four. The drink prairie punch is really good. I would definitely come back for a second try. While I was writing this review, the waiter advised the manager decided to cut the price for the steak in half because it was over cooked. Therefore, I changed the review to 5 stars.

We went today for lunch. We hadn't been for a couple of years. I've got to say this was the best meal we've ever had at Prairie House! I had the chopped brisket sandwich and my husband had the chicken fried chicken sandwich which was HUGE! All the food was piping hot and delicious. We'll be going more often. Also the entire staff was super friendly and nice! Thanks everyone!

When you go to the prairie house you’re greeted with a friendly smile quick service great food in a very efficient manner. The Decour is eclectic and comfortable my husband and I have never had a bad experience always walk away with leftovers because you always get more than enough food. If you’re ever in the area you should check them out

Hands down the best Pittsburg Style Filet I have ever had! The chef did a really good job on our food so I had to mention him/her right off the bat. This is a very cozy, country style restaurant that my husband and I both enjoyed. The service was good, restaurant is clean and the food was exceptional. If I had a complaint it would be that the country music wasn't loud enough! Kudos to the owners well managed, great restaurant.

Stopped by the Prairie House Restaurant for dinner and really enjoyed the place from the moment we stepped inside. Promptly seated, our server had our drinks to us very quickly. I ordered a Shiner Bock (draft) and it was brought out nice and cold. Also, ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes (ordered sweet corn as an extra side). Dinner was so good! I would highly recommend stopping by Prairie House restaurant...we'll be back!

I have only been here for breakfast so fat, but I can highly recommend them for people living in the area. Love the decor, friendly service and breakfast as it should be. Make sure you get the Bandidos! They were delightful. I have had better pancakes before, but they were not bad.

Very friendly , helpful staff . This should 6 stars ! Steaks cook just too order . The fried cheese cake and banana pudding . Azra was a wonderful waitress made sure every thing was just right . This is going to be my new favorite steak and bar~Q SPOT ! 😍

Great restaurant! Our first time here and came with my brother and his boyfriend, and we were not disappointed. Atmosphere is outdoor country with animal heads decorating the walls. Our steak was cooked spot on with the rest of our food cooked just right.

Prairie House is a must have when your in Texas. From there Family Size portions to there Great Customer Service, they will leave you wanting more.

Busy place. We had Chicken Fried steak and chicken nachos. Chicken Nachos were great, not soggy, still crunchy. Good flavor. Chicken fried steak was good, thicker than most. Cream gravy tasty. Great service.

Great Food! Service is top notch! Kobe Beef burger is my favorite, you cant go wrong with the chicken fried ribeye

The food here is fantastic.

I've had family & friends both work here as well as frequent this establishment since before they relocated. They have a good rapport with many & always have something tasty on the menu. Excellent staff & selection for an evening out.

I new to the area and decided to try something new, the parking lot is usually packed when I drive by so the thought the food would be pretty good. I tried the chicken, ribs, sausage and brisket. All of it was dry! Even my kids complained. The cornbread was rubbery. The fries were really cold. Not good at all. I think if I would’ve ordered when they first opened it would been better. But that’s no excuse to give me old food and then slap some barbecue on it. 🤮 Never again...

Waitress was very nice, but the food was unexpectedly not good, we had never eaten here and it was really pricey for the quality of food we received, my bbq sandwich was cold as well as my fries, also my son's burger was super black all around, I guess from the char?? And my husband's pork chop was very pink in the middle but super charred grill marks. On the bright side the fried pickles spears and ranch were off the chain delicious.Yes I did tell the waitress, but we were on an hour and a half lunch break so we didn't have the time for the remake

Got a to-go order and it was quick and correct and good quality.

Excellent food!!! And very interesting interior design, old Rancho style. Their rainbow trout was just perfect, as well as turkey and sausage bbq. Kids menu is good too!

Have been here many times over the last six years. We drive over an hour to eat here. One of our favourite Ace in the Holes when we can't decide where to eat. The rainbow trout is phenomenal. The 10 oz. New York Strip is amazing as well. We never leave disappointed or hungry.

Greeteres were fine, server took our drinks fair enough time. She kind of rush us to pick our plates, she took our orders ok, but she return with our food, 2 plates were messed, my wife salad was tossed with wrong sauce, we indicate our server the sauce we wanted. My plate was all lean brisket when I asked the marble brisket with lean brisket chopped. She put the right sides quickly.; she visited out table 2 bout times , restuarant is slow. She could do better I believe so. Very disappointed

Where do you want to eat? 99% of the time its Prairie House! Great food, brisket and chicken are amazing and don’t miss the burnt ends! Salmon is great too! My hubby always always gets The 2 Step. Comes with your choice if 2 meats and the sides are beans (homemade and delicious) and coleslaw with cornbread muffins. I waffle between the Salmon, Chicken or The Cowboy special; a big ole bowl of their beans with brisket and their homemade bbq sauce in top! An amazing ole time western feel restaurant, great service and excellent food! If you have room, try the cobbler!

You want comfort food? This is it!! Beware: huge portions. So don’t worry about going home hungry. We went about 4:30 before the dinner rush and got fast, great service. We were stuffed because the prime rib is supreme!

At the first moment you come to that place they give you a comfortable feeling. Very comfortable stuff, it is a lovely place to go out with friends or with your date. delightful food, qualified chief cook and stuff, decent cost and generous service. Warmly recommended.

I would give the place 7 stars if I could. Holy cow it’s amazing. The steak was ridiculous and the chicken friend chicken the same. Legit home cooking and a very rare type of old school place. I found a new regular spot now! Only regret is when you get full and can’t eat anymore

Everything we've tried at this restaurant has been excellent - from the steaks to the barbecue sandwiches, you always get generous portions, friendly service and the food never disappoints. The family atmosphere and the building itself put the finishing touches on a really great country steakhouse.

Went here for lunch based on a recommendation from a coworker. We had the burnt ends to start. I had the Saturday lunch special, the chicken fried chicken. It's enormous! My father in law had the smoked ribs. He said they were the best ribs he has ever had. Service was excellent. Highly recommend!

The atmosphere was so nice and quiet! We had quail and the brisket & sausage. All had good flavor. The potato salad was actually fantastic! The corn bread is dense and moist. Our waitress was informed and very personable. The facilities were clean, single use menus were provided and all employees were wearing masks. 🌟🌟🌟
